A lot happened on Saturday October 24, 2015. The Rivers state election petition tribunal sitting in Abuja nullified and sacked the Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike (photo), and all hell didn’t break loose.
The tribunal, which delivered its ruling in Abuja on Saturday, also ordered that a fresh governorship election be conducted in the oil-rich state within 90 days – barring PDP’s appeal.
Immediately, the Rivers state PDP and Wike said they will appeal the tribunal’s judgment.
The petition challenging the election of Wike as Rivers State Governor was filed by Dakuku Peterside, the candidate of the APC in the April 2015 guber election.
While the Rivers PDP gnashed their teeth after the judgment the Rivers APC celebrated with ex-governor Rotimi Amaechi’s wife jigging a few dance steps to the bargain.
That reminds me. Wike and co., had been after Amaechi with a judicial panel of enquiry and a White Paper, trying very hard to prove embezzlement charges against Amaechi when he was governor of Rivers state.
Well, Amaechi has been screened and I can bet you, he’ll scale through the senatorial confirmation in the red chamber. If he doesn’t scale through, then the efficacy of the “fear of Buhari” may be questioned.
Some very highly positioned senators may have a few questions to answer to you know who – if Amaechi fails to scale through.
I’m only joking but you never know, Amaechi’s nomination was not a joke. He was the Buhari Campaign Organization Director and he worked very hard to sweep the PDP and all its presidential appurtenances into political oblivion.
Tuesday Oct 27, 2015 shall come to pass and we’ll see whether the PDP will seek their pound of flesh. Will Amaechi be confirmed as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria?
