Dennis Smith Can’t Wait To Play At Trump’s Inaugural Ball
Elton John may not want to perform for Donald J. Trump at his Jan 20, 2017 Inaugural Ball, but Dennis Smith of the Party On The Moon can’t wait to play for the president-elect . . .
At a time when many musicians are distancing themselves from the president-elect, the Party on the Moon band has been criticized for its relationship with Trump.
The band leader and co-founder of Party on the Moon, a well-traveled party band, were in Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort this weekend, where he and his bandmates played four hours of music at the private club’s New Year’s Eve bash.

“He’s really been a big supporter of ours,” Dennis Smith said of Donald Trump. The corporate and private party band played a wedding at Mar-a-Lago several years ago. The versatile musical group has been a staple of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort club’s year-end party, performing a mix of classic rock and contemporary hits at five of the last six celebrations.
Trump made a personal invitation to the band five months ago, in the middle of Trump’s presidential campaign to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN. Smith has received hate mail for performing for Trump, and for the possibility that his band will play at Trump’s inaugural ball. An inauguration spokesman did not respond to ABC News about whether the band had been asked to perform.

According to Trump in the band’s 2014 promo video:
“The band has been spectacular. So many members have come up and said this is the best New Year’s Eve we’ve ever had.”

The Inaugural Ball
I have been getting a steady steam of texts and emails asking if Party On The Moon will be performing at The Inaugural Ball for President-Elect Donald Trump. I’m not surprised by the question. We are returning to Mar-a-Lago in West Palm Beach for Mr. Trump’s New Year’s Eve party for the sixth year.
From President Obama’s Inaugural Ball in DC to Eli Manning’s wedding in Cabo, Party On the Moon is fast becoming the # 1 Private and Corporate National Act caliber band in America. Performing their first single, “Yes We Can,” for the President, producer Dennis Smith stated, “We were proud to participate in such an historic event. Whether playing for the President or for you, we really want to make a difference in people’s lives through music.
This year marks the fifteen-year anniversary of Party On the Moon. Their growth in the marketplace has been nothing short of astonishing. They became the #1 grossing exclusive band on EastCoast Entertainment’s (ECE) roster for 2008. ECE president Lee Moore was recently quoted saying, “They are worth every penny they get!”
The reason they are playing all over the world for so many people is really quite simply . . . they get it.
. . . Prepare to party!
Trump plays a big role in organizing the Mar-a-Lago parties, which has attracted Rod Stewart, Serena Williams and Regis Philbin in recent years.
Mar-a-Lago is a landmark estate in Palm Beach, Florida. Built from 1924 to 1927 by Marjorie Merriweather Post with her then-husband Edward F. Hutton. Post envisioned a future winter retreat for American presidents.
The 126-room, 110,000-square-foot (10,000 m2) house contains the Mar-a-Lago Club, a members-only club with guest rooms, a spa, and other hotel-style amenities. The Trump family maintains private quarters in a separate, closed-off area of the house and grounds.
Post hired Marion Sims Wyeth to design it, and Joseph Urban to create interior design and exterior decorations. President Richard Nixon preferred the Florida White House in Key Biscayne, however, and Jimmy Carter was not interested. Not wanting to pay $1 million in annual taxes and maintenance costs, the government returned it to the Post Foundation in 1981, which listed it for sale for $20 million. Dina Merrill and Post’s two other daughters did not maintain the property, expecting to sell it, but no buyers appeared.
Mar-a-Lago was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1980. Donald Trump bought Mar-a-Lago in 1985. After acquiring the property, Trump had the property renovated, with 58 bedrooms, 33 bathrooms, a 29-foot-long (8.8 m) pietra dura marble top dining table, 12 fireplaces, and three bomb shelters. The club also has five clay tennis courts and a waterfront pool. Further additions have been made since then, including a 20,000-square-foot (1,900 m2) ballroom.
Trump instead turned the estate into a private club and accepted Jews and blacks as guests. The new club hosted concerts by Céline Dion and Billy Joel, had beauty-pageant contestants as guests. In 1998 guests Sean Combs (King of New York) and Jennifer Lopez reportedly had public sex in front of the windows at the Bath and Tennis Club.
In 1994, Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley spent their honeymoon at Mar-a-Lago.
On April 18, 2012, the American Institute of Architects’ Florida Chapter ranked Mar-a-Lago fifth on its list of Florida Architecture: 100 Years. 100 Places.
The Mar-a-lago Club
The primary business occupying the estate is the Mar-a-Lago Club, which operates as resort and hotel for dues-paying members, and rents out estate venues for private events. Membership at the Mar-a-lago Club requires a $100,000 initiation fee, plus $14,000 annual dues. According to financial disclosure forms filed by Donald Trump, the Mar-a-Lago Club realized $29.7 million in gross revenues in the period June 2015 to May 2016.
