Donald Trump’s Winter White House Stirs Protests
U.S. President Donald Trump invited and entertained the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at Trump’s sprawling Mar-a-Lago property nicknamed “the Winter White House”. The retreat has also become a magnet for anti-Trump protesters with demonstrators protesting Trump’s decision on the Dakota Access oil pipeline. The North Dakota project, opposed by a Native American tribe fearful of water contamination from potential oil leaks, had stalled in President Barack Obama’s administration. Trump’s executive order cleared the way for the developer to start building the final stretch of pipeline.
North Korea Test-fired Missile, Challenging US
North Korea r test-fired an intercontinental ballistic missile early Sunday in what is regarded as an implicit challenge to U.S. President Donald Trump. Visiting Japanese PM Shinzo Abe called the move “absolutely intolerable.” There was no immediate confirmation from the North which had earlier warned of the missile test. The U.S. Strategic Command said it detected and tracked what it assessed to be a medium- or intermediate-range ballistic missile. The reports came as Trump was hosting Abe and just days before the North is to mark the birthday of leader Kim Jong Un’s late father, Kim Jong Il.
Actress Streep renewed harsh criticism of President Trump
Actress Meryl Streep doubled down on her harsh criticism of President Donald Trump. She said she has become a target since she first hit Trump in her Golden Globes speech in January. Addressing a cheering audience at a fundraising gala for the Human Rights Campaign, a national LGBT group, Streep referred to Trump’s tweet after her Globes speech, in which he called the celebrated actress “overrated.” “Yes, I am the most overrated, over-decorated and currently, I am the most over-berated actress … of my generation,” she said to laughs. Trump may unleash a double-down tweetstorm on her. Who knows!
